I’m quite sure you all have seen photos reposted on the #curlsfothegirls Instagram of work done by my friend, Reecie; she is a student at the Carsten Institute of Cosmetology.
I wanted to have spicy summer hair, but I was having a hard time deciding on a color. Deep down inside, I wanted to go blonde because my hair was already brown, black didn’t say “summer”, and I was a red-head last year. I showed Reecie a picture of Mckenzie Renae, one of my hair crushes, in hopes that she’d be able to deliver. Finally, it was decided– I was going to be blonde!
Reecie’s application process helped to achieve a great color while protecting my own hair. She strategically applied highlights around the crown of my head where I have the most hair. After she lightened it, she toned it so that it wasn’t as brassy. After rinsing, she applied the L’Oreal Absolut Repair Cellular Thermo Repair Blow-Dry Spray as a leave-in treatment and heat protectant. Then, she applied the Mythic Oil to nourish my hair, add shine, and prevent frizz. After applying the products, she blew my hair out with a paddle brush on low-medium heat. She then used the cool shot to lock in moisture.
After the blow out, she flat ironed my hair in small sections. She straightened it on very low heat so that it would be straight enough to clip my ends without frying my hair. After the trim, she used the flat iron to bump my hair and add body! In my opinion, the ‘after’ photos were nice, but the in-person view was much better. My hair is super soft, full of body, AND it smells amazeballs!
*Reecie has actually been heat styling and clipping my ends for a few years now. This is the first time that I’ve actually been in a salon setting with her. However, I did notice that her perfectionist ways still kick into high gear while styling as she bumped the front of my hair numerous times to get the desired look. Furthermore, she lifted my color on partially color treated hair and she trimmed my horrific (and shameful) ends in a professional and precise manner. I not only stand by her as her best friend, but I truly believe in her work!
