GLAMBOT: THE ONLINE COMMUNITY THAT SELLS USED MAKEUP FOR A FRACTION OF THE COST

The thought of purchasing used makeup makes my skin crawl. However, Glambot consumers find no harm in adding your old, used makeup to their collection for a fraction of the cost. While it does not sound appealing, many beauty enthusiasts are flocking to Glambot for their beauty fix.

Karen Horiuchi, a “tried and true makeup hoarder” founded the company in 2014 (glambot.com). She wanted to create a community where fellow makeup hoarders, such as herself, could purchase and trade makeup products for discounted prices without worrying about “counterfeits..” and “items in unusable condition” (glambot.com). The company carries an assorted list of cosmetic brands, including some favorites like Anastasia Beverly Hills, MAC Cosmetics, and Urban Decay Cosmetics, and is growing! Beauty enthusiasts can purchase their favorite products at a discounted price, as well as hard to get limited edition and discontinued items.

Although the company has a set of rules when it comes to items that can be sold, I am not sold on this idea. There are thousands of germs that get trapped in makeup, which makes buying items from this site a health risk, despite the sanitization effort that occurs before the items are resold. My advice for beauty enthusiasts:

  1. Save your coins to buy your favorite, more expensive brands.

  2. Purchase inexpensive/drugstore brands (there are PLENTY!).

  3. Find duplicate products that resemble your favorites/limited edition/discontinued products.

Although the thought may be coming from a good place, I’d like to know where my products have been before they reach me.

Until next time,
